Our countertops arrived today. I'm delighted. It's another
one of those teeny-tiny swatch situations. How can you tell if something
is what you want from a swatch that's only a couple inches wide? The deliveryman
said that quite a few people get their new counters and say, "Oh
no. THAT'S not what I ordered." But we did well. We love them. Can't wait to see them installed. |

Once again Steve is back. We've settled on a use for our big rocks. When the foundation was dug out, it formed sort of a plateau. The edge of this is a massive rockpile that nobody in their right mind should ever attempt to scale. That means that if you walk to the edge of our yard, you could just fall off and tumble 30 or so feet down a pile of sharp boulders to the woods below. We thought that might be a bad thing, although Steve assures me that if we lost anyone that way that we could toss their cars over the edge as well and pretend we'd never seen them. He'd worry me if we didn't have the same sense of humor.

So anyway, all the big boulders will be used as retaining walls and there are enough to ring most of the property's more dangerous outcroppings with a boulder fence. I had to laugh. I spent most of the day watching Steve move the boulders into place with this massive machine. He's so good at it that it looked like someone playing with a little zen garden--except it was a bit noisier, and when one of the rocks accidently rolled into the foundation, it shook the whole house. Boom! (No damage.) |
