Master Bath

I confess. The master bathroom might well be my favorite room in the house. That imaginary bath that was my lifeline for the duration of the building process was just as wonderful as I imagined it would be, and we've taken many many others since that first night in the house.

It's got the plants and candles and all the extras that I've been dreaming of since I was little. The lamps on either side have dimmer switches and go from romantic to reading light with the touch of a finger.

It's got a tiled walk-in shower with two nozzles. We can shower at the same time and not argue over water temperature. The fact that it has no door or curtain allows it to dry completely. Thus far we've had no mold problems. It also means that the whole bathroom heats up to the same temperature, so there's no BRRR! moment when you first step out of the shower.
The commode has it's own private room so that the rest of the bathroom is free even when it's in use. We had to put in a special vacuum assisted toilet in this one bathroom. I think it was because the standard piping would have presented a problem with the exposed beams downstairs. This one mounted to the wall instead of the floor. This is all fine, except that the flush sounds like a jet taking off--and it's almost as loud! A little startling if you're not prepared for it.

The vanity is considered a bit cramped by our builder's standards, but we've had no problem at all. We each have our own medicine cabinet and sink area, as well as personal vanity cabinets below. No squabbling for storage, although I'm eying Craig's ample free space. Don't tell him. Maybe he won't notice when my stuff starts to migrate.

The stained glass window on the wall was another of Craig's notions. We designed it and I did the painting because we couldn't find one we liked commercially. The only oversight is that we assumed that the windows would be quite a bit higher--you can see through them. I have to go back and make the clear spots opaque at some point. Not that privacy is a big deal for the two of us, but people keep wanting to borrow the tub...

Many thanks to my art school Roomie Janice for her help in painting this room. Tanx, Naldo!!
