Billiards Room

Voila! The room has really come together. (Well, except for the flooring. That should happen next week.) Craig's parents got us a lovely Victorian looking cue rack that works great with the style I was aiming for. My Dad was nice enough to come and help me install it so it won't fall down--even if some tipsy player leans on it. It came with these flimsy little hooks that didn't seem strong enough to hold it up for very long--it's heavy! But we pulled those off and screwed it directly into the beam. It's now a fairly permanent piece of the wall.

I wanted the alcove to feel slightly enclosed so we built a facade to frame it in. I will probably do some kind of curtain here as well.

Astrida warned me that I should try to get the crown moulding in lengths long enough to do full walls because each piece absorbs the stain differently and it can make for really noticeable seams. Unfortunately I was only able to get it in short pieces. So, we added decorative doohickies at intervals. (Doohickie is an industry term, honest.) Not only did the seams not matter anymore, it added a really nice touch of elegance to the crown moulding. I'd like to mention that my Mom painted all that gold on the mouldings and chair rails in by hand. She's come over numerous times to help me out with painting and staining. She even brings lunch most times. She works like crazy, AND she feeds me. I know her true motivation, though. Landscaping. She's ready to start on the garden, and painting is just a way to kill time until spring comes.

Dave was kind enough to return to help me with the flooring, despite the fact that any normal human would have run screaming after the last time. Fortunately for me, Dave has never wished to be known as normal.

This job was quite a bit simpler, and we easily finished in a day.

And here it is. Flooring done, trim finished, and stools reupholstered in a nice matching color. (Reagan's idea. She had a lot of good ideas.)

Of course, the really notable missing piece is the pool table. I'll add more photos when that finally arrives. We should be hearing on that in the next couple of weeks, although it could take as long as early March to get here.
